doTERRA Donates to Bring H.O.P.E. to the Hungry

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Nov. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — With a desire to change the future, students from Elon University pooled together their resources to create H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat). This organization was created to raise awareness of the thousands who face food insecurity every day and offers a way for the community to fight hunger together. H.O.P.E. connects the community to local food pantries so that the pantries can provide healthy food for those in need. After seeing great success in their organization, they are now expanding their influence and are in the process of creating an app to increase awareness and donations to their cause. doTERRA was pleased to make a monetary donation to H.O.P.E. to help them create a hunger-fighting app that will richly impact the hungry in their community.

When the H.O.P.E. organization was formed, 19 percent of children in a nearby county were classified as food insecure. These kids did not have access to a sufficient quantity of healthy food to sustain them. Without the right amount of food, or the right food, the body and mind can be sorely affected. Insufficient nutrition can lead to a weakened immune system, opening the door for viruses and infections to readily affect the body. Viruses that onset the flu, cold, and pneumonia are especially likely to impact children who lack nutrition. Apart from viruses and infections, studies have shown that hunger can also stunt a child’s growth and mental, physical, and emotional development, and can easily spill over into adulthood.

These effects just begin to scratch the surface of hunger issues, but with the help of the community and the donations of others, H.O.P.E. is facing these problems head-on by reducing hunger locally. H.O.P.E. is a unique set-up that allows individuals in their community and around the nation to take part in fighting hunger. For those in their community, H.O.P.E. is connected to local restaurants that are “H.O.P.E Certified.” These certified restaurants give customers an opportunity to make a donation with their meal so that others can have a meal from H.O.P.E. If not a local patron, individuals around the nation can still help by donating at the H.O.P.E. website. All of the proceeds from these donations go toward providing local pantries with food for the hungry.

Through donations of individuals and companies like doTERRA, H.O.P.E. is able to diminish hunger and build an app that will expand the amount of lives they change and stomachs they fill. Visit H.O.P.E. to learn more or donate.
