Herbalife Nutrition Urges Southeast Asia Consumers to Actively Combat Obesity with Balanced Nutrition Habits

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Global nutrition company, Herbalife (NYSE:HLF), is urging Southeast Asia consumers to actively combat obesity by adopting balanced nutrition habits in everyday living. Speaking at a lunch symposium of the 1st Southeast Asia Public Health Nutrition (SEA-PHN) Conference, Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board Member Dr. Chin-Kun Wang highlighted the role of balanced nutrition in supporting the fight against obesity and expressed concern on how often it has been underestimated in the region. Held on May 14 – 17, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the SEA-PHN Conference aims to promote and sustain public health nutrition in the SEA region.

“Herbalife Nutrition is honored to be a Diamond Sponsor of the 1st Southeast Asia Public Health Nutrition Conference”

“Herbalife Nutrition is honored to be a Diamond Sponsor of the 1st Southeast Asia Public Health Nutrition Conference,” said Mr. Stephen Conchie, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife Asia Pacific. “We aim to inspire positive nutrition habits all around the world, and this conference is the perfect platform for us to continue promoting the benefits of balanced nutrition in Southeast Asia. Through supporting and participating in this conference, we hope to share the science behind this philosophy with stakeholders from the health and nutrition industry, and work with like-minded partners to collectively combat obesity in the region.”

Dr. Wang, an expert in metabolism and nutrition, and the president of the International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods, and council member of the Federation Association of Asian Nutrition Societies, said, “With the percentage of overweight and obese people in Southeast Asia having risen from 19.8% in 2010 to 22% in 2014, consumers need to be more aware of the associated health challenges – such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer associated with being overweight and obesity. While there are many known ways to fight obesity, adopting balanced nutrition habits is generally considered a safer and more sustainable way to combat obesity for most population groups.”

Sharing practical tips on adopting balanced nutrition habits with nutrition experts and medical professionals, Dr. Wang added that calculating calorie intake and consuming high quality protein are important habits to cultivate in weight management. They can empower consumers with the nutritional understanding to better plan their meals and help prevent overeating. In addition, he recommended that consumers favor soybean proteins for their positive and functional impact on human health, such as the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and reduced risk for some cancers.

Herbalife Nutrition also conducted a series of activities at their exhibition booth, to help conference delegates understand the Herbalife Balanced Nutrition Philosophy and incorporate balanced nutrition habits into daily living.
