doTERRA and Days for Girls Celebrate International Women’s Day with Service Project

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, March 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — doTERRA International, the world’s leading essential oils company, partnered with Days for Girls to assemble 1,770 reusable feminine hygiene kits for women around the world. The project marked International Women’s Day with service from doTERRA employees and Wellness Advocates.

Nearly five hundred doTERRA employees and local Wellness Advocates gathered to assemble the life-changing feminine hygiene kits. The young women receiving the kits are in desperate need of the feminine hygiene education and supplies. These reusable kits make it possible for young women to stay in school where previously they would have skipped class and fallen behind or eventually dropped out of school altogether.

“When we learned that young women are using leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, and other materials for feminine hygiene, we were heartbroken and knew we needed to help,” said Emily Wright, executive vice president of sales and marketing at doTERRA. “We are excited to help with the hygiene kits and through this small act of service, support these girls in receiving an education and increasing their self-esteem.”

In addition to its work with Days for Girls, doTERRA supports women across the world through the work of the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ and doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing® initiatives. In Guatemala, women receive training in how to manage small businesses that help sustain their families. The women may also take classes in cooking and food preparation. In Africa, hundreds of women have benefitted from the micro-lending programs doTERRA funded with partner, Mentors International. Women entrepreneurs around the world are elevating their families and communities through their hard work and ingenuity with personal businesses ranging from farming and food production to clothing businesses and more.

“A key part of our mission at doTERRA is helping individuals lift themselves and their communities to higher standards of living,” said Kirk Jowers, doTERRA vice president of corporate relations and European markets. “We are pleased to celebrate International Women’s Day in such a significant and meaningful way. The hygiene kits doTERRA employees and Wellness Advocates create can change the trajectory of a young woman’s life and improve her long-term prospects and the prospects of her future family and community. When a girl is able to stay in school and learn, she is much more likely to be a leader in her community and be able to help support her future family.”

doTERRA has been a long-time sponsor of Days for Girls. During the record-breaking 2016 doTERRA convention, the company restated its support of Days for Girls with an additional $250,000 donation. Additionally, many doTERRA Wellness Advocates are actively involved in local Days for Girls chapters and enjoy making and distributing the reusable kits. More than 620,000 women in more than 100 countries have received these life-changing kits.
